Lonzo Ball hasn’t played in a single NBA game ever since tearing the meniscus in his left knee back in January 2022.
Recovery from such an injury shouldn’t take nearly this long, and many have been skeptical that he could successfully resume his pro basketball career.
Ball has undergone multiple procedures since suffering his injury, and he revealed on “The WAE Show” that he received a new meniscus, which came from a donor, per NBACentral.

“I had to get new meniscus from a donor, I had to get a bone allograft and I had to get some new cartilage put in as well”

Ball came into the NBA as the No. 2 pick in the 2017 draft amidst some immense hype, and even when he was healthy, he was unable to prove he was worthy of that hype.
In five seasons so far, he has averaged 11.9 points, 6.2 assists, and 5.7 rebounds a game, and he has greatly improved his 3-point shooting, which is something that used to be a big weakness for him.
However, he lacks the ability to be a legitimate scoring threat, and despite being projected by some to be a generational talent in terms of passing and facilitating, he has averaged at least seven assists a game only twice, and his highest such average has been only 7.2 dimes per game.
Upon joining the Bulls in 2021, Ball helped them start to play like a potential contender, but his injury was one reason why the Bulls went into free-fall during the second half of the 2021-22 season.
Their roster could look a lot different next season, as they don’t seem to have much upward potential, but if Ball can come back and stay healthy, he could at least be a building block for their future.
