Over the last few months, Bronny James has received a lot of attention, especially after he announced that he would be entering the 2024 NBA Draft after a disappointing first and only season with the University of Southern California.
Health scare aside, Bronny James didn’t do anything to turn any heads during his short time at USC, as he wasn’t even a starter on a team that won 15 of 33 games and averaged only 4.8 points per game during that span.
Even though Bronny wasn’t considered a top-tier draft prospect, his famous father, LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers, has hyped him up like no other, and now there’s a strong chance that he will get drafted in the first or second round of the upcoming draft, which gets underway on June 26.
Although it seems painfully apparent why Bronny is getting so much attention, Rich Paul of Klutch Sports fired back at critics recently, via Legion Hoops.
“Some may feel like he’s getting an opportunity because of his father, and I think that’s a very naive logic, especially in America,” Paul said. “When you look at America as a whole, it’s built on the nepotism. No one’s having this conversation about Jim Dolan. He owns the Knicks, but his dad built a business.”
Rich Paul on Bronny getting “special treatment” because of his father’s name:

So basically, Paul is saying that nepotism is precisely why Bronny James is getting all this attention, and that is totally fine because this country was built on nepotism, which seems like an interesting argument to make.
This is more or less confirming that Bronny doesn’t deserve to get all this hype on merit but rather because of who his father is, which could be a giant red flag for any NBA team thinking about drafting him.
