Timberwolves Are Facing Tough Odds To Win Series With Mavericks

After beating the defending champion Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference semifinals, the Minnesota Timberwolves seemed poised to continue their run in the Western Conference Finals against the Dallas Mavericks.

With their blend of size, shooting, and defense it was easy to envision Minnesota advancing past Dallas to make the franchise’s first-ever NBA Finals appearance.

Instead, the Timberwolves face a 0-2 series deficit after blowing a double-digit lead in Game 2 and seeing Luka Doncic hit a game-winning three over Rudy Gobert.

The Mavericks have been on a tear during the postseason as they’re coming off a series where they knocked off the No. 1 seed Oklahoma City Thunder.

The combination of Kyrie Irving and Doncic has been too much for teams to handle, especially in crunch time where either star guard can take over a game.

Now, Minnesota finds itself in an unenviable position where they need to make history in order to advance past Dallas, via ESPN Bet.

“Teams that have a 2-0 lead in the Conference Finals have won the series 91 percent of the time (58-6),” they tweeted.

Normally, it would seem plausible for the Timberwolves to climb back into the series given they’re built for postseason basketball, but losing home-court advantage really stings.

Meanwhile, there are no signs that the Mavericks are slowing down as they’ve got the pieces to overcome any sort of deficit and claw their way back into games.

The series is far from over as the Timberwolves have proven to be a resilient bunch, but even their most optimistic fans have to admit they’ve got a tough challenge ahead of them.
