The New York Jets enter this season with high hopes and expectations but also with plenty of things to prove.
That’s particularly true for the guy calling the shots on offense.
There have been some worrisome reports about OC Nathaniel Hackett, up to the point where the team reportedly wanted to hire someone above him to right his wrongs.
Nonetheless, he’s got Aaron Rodgers’ ear, and that might be all it takes to hold onto his job for as long as the Hall of Famer is there.
Rodgers is well aware of his leverage and power on the team.
When asked what he’d say to Jets fans who still have doubts about Hackett, his response was blunt and straightforward.
Rodgers simply claimed that Jets fans need to trust him, and he trusts Hackett (via Around the NFL):
“You should trust me and I trust Nathaniel,” Rodgers said. “So, to me, that’s end of story. There’s been a lot of BS that’s been said out there. There’s a lot of things that have gone on the last couple years that he’s dealt with that I think he’s handled very professionally. And at the end of the day, I think you gotta trust his and my working relationship and the conversations that we have.”

To his credit, Hackett and Rodgers did have quite a successful partnership when they were together with the Green Bay Packers.
The offensive coordinator brought out the best in the talented quarterback, helping him achieve MVP status.
Hackett didn’t look the part when he was given the chance to be the Denver Broncos’ head coach, and he also left plenty to be desired last season.
Still, we all know Rodgers is a bit of a character and it was in the Jets’ best interests to keep him appeased, which is why it wasn’t much of a surprise to see them hiring Hackett.
Now, he has to prove his worth.
