Even though he’s about to turn 40, LeBron James’ future is still going to determine a lot of things in the NBA this offseason.

Despite his age, James continues to put up MVP-caliber numbers, and with his durability and basketball IQ, multiple teams won’t hesitate to make a run at him.

According to Sixers insider Keith Pompey, that includes the Philadelphia 76ers.

While he acknowledges that Paul George is currently the Sixers’ primary target, he adds that they could also go after LeBron or New York Knicks star OG Anunoby if they can’t lure him away from the Los Angeles Clippers (via NBA Central).

The Sixers have their eyes on LeBron James, per @PompeyOnSixers

“The Sixers do have their eyes on other lucrative-salary impact players just in case they don’t get George. That’s why they also are looking at potential free agents like the Los Angeles Lakers’ LeBron James and… pic.twitter.com/EaqNvzfyVN

Needless to say, that seems like a bit of a long shot, as James’ entire business operation and family are in Los Angeles, and it would be tough to envision him playing for a fourth franchise, especially at this point in his career.

Nonetheless, it would make sense from a basketball perspective.

He would be creating yet another Big 3, this time alongside Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey, not to mention the fact that he would play in a much weaker Eastern Conference, which always helped him make the NBA Finals.

The Sixers are a legitimate championship contender, and adding James would take them to a whole new level.

Still, given Daryl Morey’s history of power struggles with star players and how things turned out between him and Chris Paul, one of LeBron’s closest friends, it’s hard to think he’s going to even consider sitting down with him to talk about a potential contract.
