Right now, the Los Angeles Lakers, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Washington Wizards are all looking for new head coaches before the start of the 2024-25 season.

Speaking on “First Take,” Udonis Haslem touched upon all of these positions but said one was the most desirable in his eyes: the Wizards.

While some people might want the glitz and glamor of coaching the Lakers and others would want to be with an up-and-coming team like the Cavaliers, Haslem thinks coaching the Wizards is the best choice.

Haslem made the very good point that coaches don’t stick with the Lakers for very long.

Even Frank Vogel, who led them to a championship, wasn’t there a season later after they lost in the opening round of the playoffs.

The Lakers may only have about two more years with LeBron James and that means any new head coach has a ticking clock over his head.

That doesn’t sound like a comfortable position with a lot of job security.

Meanwhile, the Cavaliers don’t know what their future looks like.

They haven’t signed Donovan Mitchell to a new deal and they may not.

That means that this new team might be several years away from being very competitive again.

Meanwhile, the Wizards are a team that is at the bottom of the standings right now, which means they can only go up.

They can make some moves, commit to some trades, earn some draft picks, and lay the foundation for a bright future.

And because they are so bad right now, any new head coach will have a lot of time and very little pressure for immediate success.
