Not so long ago, the New York Knicks hoped Obi Toppin would be their franchise player.
Taking him with the No. 8 selection was a controversial decision.
He had a good year in college, but was one-dimensional and not particularly young, and it didn’t take long before they started questioning that decision.
Tom Thibodeau never truly trusted him because of his lack of defensive commitment, and while he gave the team some productive minutes off the bench, he never actually improved his game.
Now, the Indiana Pacers have to make a decision about him.
He’s about to enter restricted free agency, and he could fetch some interest around the league.
Even so, that doesn’t seem to be on his mind right now.
When asked about his plans for free agency and the summer, he claimed that he was only focused on this series, and now that it was over, he was just going to chill (Via New York Basketball).
“Nah not at all, just focused on these games. And now that it’s over, just gonna be chilling right?”

Granted, being an NBA player is a major grind, and it only makes sense that they have some well-deserved vacations and time to rest after what they put their bodies through.
However, perhaps laughing and talking about the season being over with relief just minutes after getting swept might not be a positive message to send the organization and the fans.
NBA players are entitled to their free time and are human beings just like the rest of us, but it would’ve been nice to see that he cared about the loss.
