The Los Angeles Lakers remain on the search for a new head coach.
We have all heard a slew of names thrown around for the next Lakers coach, and a new report states that one candidate will be meeting with the team today.
Dan Woike of The Los Angeles Times shared on Twitter that the Lakers are scheduled for in-person interviews today with New Orleans Pelicans assistant coach James Borrego, according to multiple sources.

Borrego’s name has been linked to the Lakers in recent weeks, but this is a big step forward with multiple in-person interviews scheduled.
JJ Redick is the other name who has been most often linked to the coaching vacancy, so it’s possible the search is down to these two finalists.
Borrego has the experience that Redick lacks, as he coached the Charlotte Hornets for four years from 2018-2022 before being dismissed after going 43-39 in 2021-22 and missing the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year.
His Hornets teams were competitive despite not having the roster needed to truly compete in the Eastern Conference, and he has done a great job with this young Pelicans roster to get them into the playoffs as well.
We have yet to see Borrego coach a potential contender, and it would be interesting to see what he could do with this Lakers roster.
He is only 46 and should have a long career ahead of him.
