The Kansas City Chiefs are going to go for a historic three-peat as Super Bowl champions this coming season, and that means everyone will have to step things up.

Being the defending world champs in any sport, let alone two-time defending champs, as the Chiefs are, means a team has a big target on its back, and people need to perform better and have a higher level of intensity and sense of urgency than in the past.

Kansas City pass-rusher Chris Jones responded to a Twitter video of him working out by saying he wants to record at least 20 sacks in 2024.

The record for most sacks achieved in one season is 22.5, which is held by both Michael Strahan and T.J. Watt.

Keep in mind that the NFL didn’t start to keep track of sacks as an official statistic until the 1982 season.

Jones’ personal best in that category is 15.5 sacks, which he registered in 2018 and 2022, and last season, he had 10.5 sacks.

In 2023, the Chiefs evolved from a team that won mostly with offense to more of a dink-and-dunk team that finished second in both points and total yards allowed.

With speedster wide receiver Tyreek Hill long gone, they found a new way to win, and it only heightened their aura of dominance.

The rest of the AFC has gotten stronger, and if there is any slippage for Kansas City, there are at least a couple of teams that could topple them in the playoffs.

But Jones could prevent that by turning in the type of career-best effort he hinted at in his Twitter post.
