After a disappointing end to the 2023-24 NBA season, in which the Golden State Warriors failed to make the NBA playoffs, the storied franchise is heading into an uncertain future, with changes needing to be made in order to get this team back on track and make the best of what could be the final few years of Stephen Curry’s prime.
With the pressure on in the Bay Area, the Warriors will likely be one of the most aggressive teams in the league this summer in terms of trying to shake up the roster with trades and notable players coming and going.
Along with the uncertainty surrounding Klay Thompson’s future with the team, as he and the team’s brass don’t seem to be seeing eye-to-eye on a contract extension, the Warriors could try to pull off a blockbuster trade this offseason.
According to Anthony Slater of The Athletic via NBACentral, one surprising superstar the Warriors could target this summer is Jimmy Butler of the Miami Heat.
“We discussed some of the Warriors’ options on our offseason preview podcast,” Slater said. “Two quick situations of note: If Brandon Ingram hits the trade market, I would not expect the Warriors to show interest. If the Heat shop Jimmy Butler, I would expect the Warriors to enter the conversation to at least some degree.”

Although Pat Riley made it clear that the team doesn’t intend to trade Butler and could try to sign him to a contract extension, it seems that some don’t believe that’s the case.
Along with the Warriors, the Philadelphia 76ers could be a potential destination for Butler, as the team regrets trading him to Miami in the first place and wants another star next to Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.
