The Dallas Mavericks are headed to the NBA Finals after blowing past the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference Finals in five games.
They will take on the Boston Celtics, owners of the league’s best regular season record, for the world championship beginning on Thursday of next week.
One interesting storyline of this upcoming series is Kyrie Irving’s return to Boston, a place he spent two seasons in, and Celtics big man Al Horford talked about what the environment will be like for the North Jersey native, per Noa Dalzell.
Al Horford on Kyrie Irving’s homecoming:
“These fans care. They care about the Celtics. They care about Boston. It’s been spoken about already, when he left, it wasn’t ideal for everyone here.”

Irving started his NBA career with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2011, and in 2016, he teamed up with LeBron James to deliver the Cavs a world championship, which was the first for the city of Cleveland since the Cleveland Browns won the NFL title in 1964.
It looked like the Cavs had a duo that would last for many years, but Irving demanded a trade just a year later, and he was sent to the Celtics.
He then angered Celtics fans by leaving as a free agent in 2019, despite saying at the start of the 2018-19 season that he was planning on re-signing with the team.
Irving has made himself into a polarizing figure because of his off-the-court antics, but since arriving in Dallas midway through last season, he has been on his best behavior.
He and Luka Doncic have developed terrific chemistry with each other, and now they’re just four wins away from taking home the NBA’s grand prize against a Celtics franchise that has won it 17 times.
