The Minnesota Vikings have gone back and forth with their star wide receiver.

Justin Jefferson is by far one of the best offensive players in the game, and as such, he’s likely going to get a deal that reflects his impact on the field.

That’s why it’s not much of a surprise to see a report by Jeremy Fowler of ESPN stating that the Vikings want to make Jefferson not only the highest-paid wide receiver in the game, but also the highest-paid non-quarterback (via The Purple Persuasion).

“This is going to be a market-altering deal when it does happen with Minnesota.” says @JFowlerESPN, he goes on, “I’m told the Vikings are pretty motivated here. They want to try to get something done, they’ve been in active discussions with Jefferson and his representation. So… pic.twitter.com/cgAg14rpES

Fowler adds that the deal could be done within the next weeks or months, and it’s not a matter of if or when.

Jefferson has reportedly turned down several offers from the Vikings, and there was some speculation about a potential trade, particularly after they also moved on from Kirk Cousins.

Nonetheless, Vikings GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah has been quite vocal about his unwavering commitment to getting Jefferson signed to a long-term deal.

Jefferson has been quite durable and healthy for most of his career, with last season being the only outlier thus far.

He’s young, dominant, versatile, and one of the best route-runners in the game, and if he wants to stay in Minnesota and keep building on his legacy, they shouldn’t hesitate to give him this kind of market-setting deal.

They need someone who’s on the same timeline as J.J. McCarthy, and if they truly believe he’s their guy for the future, it makes sense to give him one of the prime weapons in the league.
