The Sacramento Kings took a step back in 2023-24, and many believed it was time to move on from Mike Brown, but the coach deserves plenty of credit for leading the franchise back to the playoffs last season and reaching the play-in again this year.
Regarding his contract, the Kings had a big decision to make this offseason, and there is now reportedly some resolution on that front.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that both sides were determined to reach a deal to keep Brown with the Kings, and that has now come to fruition as Brown has agreed to a $4 million raise to $8.5 million for the 2024-25 season plus another $8.5 million a year in the two new additional seasons on the contract.

Last season, the Kings reached the playoffs for the first time in 16 years and took the defending champion Golden State Warriors to seven games in the first round and followed it up by winning 46 games this year as well as a play-in game.
It’s easy to look at the end result and call this season a huge step back, but in 2022-23, the team won 48 games, which was good enough for a 3-seed in the West.
This year the Kings won just two fewer games, but 46 wins in the West this year was only good enough for the ninth seed.
As the most successful teams during this postseason have shown, continuity from one year to the next is pivotal in the NBA, and the Kings have something going and shouldn’t mess with it.
Brown is the right coach for this team and won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.
