It feels like at this point every player who ever had any success on an NFL field will go into broadcasting at some point after hanging up the cleats, and legendary quarterback Drew Brees could be next in line sooner than later.
Brees called a few games for NBC but was never a regular, but with two of his biggest rivals Matt Ryan and Tom Brady entering the booth this season, Brees’ competitive fire might be lit once again as he recently shared his thoughts on potentially joining them in that venture on a more regular basis.
Brees spoke publicly recently and discussed how he only got to call two NFL games during his time at NBC and said that he would love to call games again, saying “I think I could be the best at it.” and later following up on X by saying, “SNF, MNF or Thursday Night Football. Come get me when you’re ready! Until then I’m coaching ball.”
Yep, I said it. SNF, MNF or Thursday Night Football. Come get me when you’re ready! Until then I’m coaching ball https://t.co/NiwgxrwpWC

Quarterbacks tend to have the most success in the booth and are the most obvious candidates to get behind the mic given the way they have to be so knowledgable about all facets of the game during their playing days, as well as the fact that QBs are often the most recognizable faces on the team.
Tony Romo’s success in the booth seemed to revamp the QB-to-broadcaster path, and it’ll be interesting to see what Ryan and Brady can bring to the field.
Keep an eye out for Brees following suit.
