There was little doubt that this version of the Boston Celtics would get back to the NBA Finals as they dominated the competition throughout the 2023-24 NBA season.
The Celtics were one of the best teams in the league on both ends of the floor and they almost sleepwalked through the 2024 NBA playoffs as they made quick work of their opponents.
Boston looks like a team on a mission, especially players like Jayson Tatum, who will be chasing after his first championship ring.
Tatum was a key part of the Celtics team that made it to the 2022 NBA Finals, though that squad lost to the Golden State Warriors in six games.
Now, Tatum and company have a chance to make up for that tough series loss when they face off against Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks.
Ahead of the Finals, Tatum sent a clear message about how he’s approaching this series against the Mavericks, via Noa Dalzell of CelticsBlog.com.
“There’s a lot that myself, and we, can learn from that experience in the [2022] finals,” Tatum said. “You don’t always get a second chance, so really just looking at it as a second chance… it’s another series that we gotta win.”

It sounds like Tatum understands that a team’s championship window isn’t always open for long no matter how talented a group is.
Although Boston is considered the overwhelming favorites against Dallas, it doesn’t mean much as they were also the favorites against Golden State years ago.
Tatum will need to have a strong series to help get the Celtics over the hump and it’ll be interesting to see if he is up to the challenge.
