The Dallas Mavericks and Boston Celtics will square off for the 2023-24 NBA Finals.
There are several storylines here, such as Kyrie Irving’s return to Boston or whether Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown will finally get over the hump.
However, some fans have also taken notice of the fact that Grant Williams was pretty close to making the NBA Finals.
He played for the Celtics for his entire career before joining the Mavericks via sign-and-trade before the start of the season, just to be traded to the Charlotte Hornets midway through the campaign.
With that in mind, the fans started teasing him, and Overtime even shared a picture of him wearing both jerseys and claiming that he must have woken up ‘sad as hell.’
That’s why Williams took to the post to claim that he actually woke up feeling blessed and stated that both teams had great people, and he was honored to play for both of them.
Williams was a major contributor in Boston.
He was their glue guy in the second unit, playing defense, knocking down three-pointers, and even making plays for others.
He looked like a seamless fit in Dallas, but reports claimed that he rubbed plenty of people the wrong way there and was never fully embraced in the locker room.
The Mavericks were at their best once they landed PJ Washington and Daniel Gafford.
Of course, that’s not because Williams was at fault for their struggles; they simply were a better fit.
Now, he’ll get to watch both of his former teams square off, but he might be actually rooting for the Mavs, as he could get a ring.
