The Atlanta Falcons made the biggest splash in free agency this offseason when they signed Kirk Cousins to a four-year deal worth up to $180 million.
Cousins was the best quarterback on the market despite suffering a torn Achilles midway through the 2023 NFL season, though by all accounts he will be ready near the start of the 2024 NFL campaign.
The veteran signal-caller has been a quality starter for years and had some of his best seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, but now joins an Atlanta team filled with young star offensive weapons.
Drake London and Kyle Pitts should see career years playing with Cousins, while Bijan Robinson is expected to take another leap forward as their franchise running back.
However, not everything has been perfect for the Falcons, who have been under investigation by the NFL for allegedly tampering with Cousins in free agency.
The league does not take kindly to tampering violations and is expected to severely punish Atlanta, via Adam Schefter of ESPN.
“One league source indicated that the Falcons’ alleged transgressions are considered more significant, and the discipline is expected to be more severe for Atlanta,” Schefter said.
In the past, teams have been docked draft picks and been handed out fines for transgressions regarding tampering and it sounds like the Falcons will be facing a similar fate.
It remains to be seen just how harsh the punishment will be, but given the accusations it stands to reason at least one first-round pick and a hefty fine is in the cards for the organization.
