James Harden has been in the NBA for 15 seasons now, and even though his numbers have fallen off over the last few years, he is still a threat at age 34.

He was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers early this season, and he is about to become a free agent, which means the Clippers will have a decision to make when it comes to whether to keep him around.

When asked how he wants to be remembered once his career is over, Harden said he wants to be remembered as a “winner” and “teacher,” per ClutchPoints.

Reporter: “How do you hope the [players and fans] will remember you after [you’re done with your career]?”

James Harden: “That I was a winner… Put the money aside. I really love and enjoy the game of basketball.”

If Harden wants to be remembered as a winner, something will need to drastically change.

He has a reputation as someone who plays poorly in big games and elimination games, and partly as a result, his teams have always come short of winning the NBA championship.

This season, the Clippers got red-hot shortly after his arrival, which led many to tab them as legitimate title contenders.

But they leveled off after the All-Star break, and they finished a mere fourth in the Western Conference with a 51-31 record.

In the first round of the playoffs, they played the Dallas Mavericks to a 2-2 tie, only to lose the next two games of the series by a combined 43 points.

In those two games, Harden shot a combined 7-of-28 and scored just 23 points.

The Clippers could lose star forward Paul George in free agency this summer, and if that happens, it’s easy to imagine them taking half a step back in the always competitive Western Conference.
