Packers GM Reveals Timeline For Jordan Love’s Contract Extension

The Green Bay Packers are coming off a surprising and promising season.

Jordan Love turned out to be as good as advertised, and it seemed like all the patience and the drama with Aaron Rodgers paid off.

Now, it’s time for their quarterback to get paid.

The Packers had already signed Love to a short contract extension, but after what he showed in his first season as a starter, it didn’t take long before analysts speculated about a new deal.

With that in mind, GM Brian Gutekunst revealed that the contract extension is currently in the works, with both parties looking forward to getting a deal done sooner rather than later (via Ari Meirov).

This makes perfect sense.

Even after a slow start to the season and a tough stretch midway through the campaign, Love looked poised and in control of the offense, and he posted solid numbers.

He was arguably the best quarterback in the league in the final month-and-a-half of the season, posting MVP-caliber numbers there.

Granted, he didn’t end the campaign on a high note with a couple of mistakes vs. the San Francisco 49ers, but he had put his team in a position to win that game first.

Love picked the Dallas Cowboys’ defense apart on the road to prove that he could even win big games, and with the Packers looking like a promising team with plenty of young talent, it’s only right that they lock in their quarterback for years to come.
