It’s that time of year again, when players described as “disgruntled” create speculation over whether they will participate in mandatory team minicamps.

One of the NFL stars drawing attention is Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton.

It is no secret that he wants his current deal sweetened, even though there are two years remaining on the contract he signed.

Super Bowl winning head coach Sean Payton enters his second season in the Mile High City knowing well that he needs all of his pieces in place to build on last year’s lackluster 8-9 finish.

Troy Renck reported that Peyton believes that Sutton will be at the team’s mandatory minicamp next week, though he is far from certain.

Payton made a point to praise Sutton’s work ethic and his pride as a player.

Sutton undoubtedly watched this week while Minnesota’s Justin Jefferson received a staggering $140 million extension to stay with the team.

And while this works in his favor that many wide receivers seek a new payday, it is important to note that Sutton is nowhere near the class of Jefferson or many of the NFL’s elite wideouts.

His 14.3 yards per catch career average over six seasons is nice, but it does not place him in the upper echelon of his position.

And last season’s 59 receptions in 14 starts showed Sutton to be a dependable player, but may not have positioned him for the kind of payday he apparently believes he is due.

After all, Sutton already has a deal averaging $15.2 million per season.
