As loaded as the San Francisco 49ers are, and many expect them to make a return trip to the Super Bowl after the coming season, imagine what their lineup would look like with Justin Jefferson split wide.
No one is saying that a deal was close to fruition, but San Francisco’s exploratory move earlier this year raised the possibility.
That is now a moot point, as Jefferson signed a record-breaking $140 million contract extension to stay in Minnesota earlier this week.
49ers insider David Lombardi reported that, according to Adam Schefter, “the 49ers called Minnesota inquiring about Justin Jefferson earlier this offseason.”
According to Schefter, the 49ers called Minnesota inquiring about Justin Jefferson earlier this offseason. Reminds me of their call to Green Bay about Aaron Rodgers before the 2021 draft. Lynch and Shanahan have a “no stone unturned” policy. Certainly no downside to a phone call

That would fit the definition of a blockbuster deal.
Lombardi further noted that San Francisco also called about Aaron Rodgers’ possible availability prior to the 2021 draft.
He added that the leadership team of John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan has a “no stone unturned” policy and that there is nothing to be lost with a simple phone call.
As there are no meaningful games for many weeks to come, now is the perfect time of the year for speculation.
The draft is complete, free agents are signed and teams are engaged in minicamps as the summer heats up.
What would the 49ers look like with Jefferson in uniform?
Is there such a thing as too much talent?
We will never know, as Jefferson is set to spend the next several years in Viking Purple, but he would have been an insane addition to a loaded franchise that is already the envy of most of the NFL.
Much respect is due to an organization determined not to let any opportunity pass it by.
