Not so long ago, the NBA was in awe of what Monty Williams had done with the Phoenix Suns.
He turned an ever-struggling franchise around, and with pretty much the same roster, he proved that they could be competitive.
Then, the Suns’ front office made a couple of big moves to give them a chance to compete for an NBA championship, and while they weren’t able to get the job done in the end, it still seemed like Williams was onto something as a coach.
Fast forward to today, and his success in the desert now looks like a fluke.
He’s failed to develop the plethora of young talent the Detroit Pistons have stacked together, and he’s also left something to be desired as a tactician.
That’s why, after a very disappointing campaign, it’s not much of a surprise to see that the team is reportedly evaluating his job (via James Edwards & Evan Sidery).
The Pistons are currently evaluating the future of head coach Monty Williams, per @JLEdwardsIII (https://t.co/p8CTMjVE4W).

Granted, it takes time to build and develop a winning culture and help struggling teams.
Even so, there have been foundational concerns about this Pistons team; it goes way beyond wins and losses.
Money is still king, though, so the Pistons might be stuck with coach Williams for awhile even if they’re not fully convinced about him.
