The Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics have had a rivalry for years.

So have the Chicago Bulls and Detroit Pistons, the New York Knicks and Indiana Pacers, among others.

Nonetheless, perhaps the biggest rivalry in the league might be taking place off the court.

Ever since Shams Charania went solo and left Adrian Wojnarowski’s tutelage, the pair of renowned insiders have gone back and forth.

Despite not acknowledging each other, there’s a clear fight to be not only the first to break the news but also the most accurate.

While Shams has gained some ground in the first aspect of business, Woj usually beats him when it comes to reporting what’s actually going on when no one else even has a clue.

This was on full display again today when the veteran insider dropped his latest bombshell, reporting that the Los Angeles Lakers always had UConn’s Dan Hurley as their primary coaching candidate, as opposed to Charania’s report of it being JJ Redick.

Talking on “Get Up,” Woj revealed that the Lakers were prepared to make him a “massive long-term offer,” hoping he’d get and develop his program within their organization.

They don’t want this to be a short-term hire and are sick and tired of changing coaches every two years, and they believe Hurley is the right guy to lead them to the next stage.
