The Los Angeles Lakers are on the verge of making an unexpected move.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, they’re about to make Dan Hurley an offer to lure him out of UConn.

There were reports about LeBron James not being involved in the coaching search, something that was tough to believe when it was believed JJ Redick was the leading candidate.

Now, Brian Windhorst reveals that James actually wanted the Lakers to make that decision on their own.

Talking on ESPN Radio’s “UNSPORTSMANLIKE,” Windhorst revealed that LeBron told the Lakers that they needed to make this decision thinking of the future.

He didn’t want to be the centerpiece of the conversation, and he encouraged them to find a good fit for Anthony Davis and the future of the organization.

Windhorst also claimed that it would take a long-term commitment to Hurley for him to even consider leaving the Huskies after leading them to back-to-back NCAA championships.

The Lakers aren’t likely to be championship contenders next year or the other.

It would take several moves to change that.

That’s why it only makes sense that they brace themselves for the post-LeBron James era, and it’s about time Davis steps up as their undisputed go-to guy and franchise player while James plays it out and rides into the sunset.
