The Los Angeles Lakers could be on the verge of hiring a new head coach.

On Thursday morning, multiple reports stated the team was eyeing UConn head coach Dan Hurley as the team’s new leader.

The news of Hurley’s potential hiring was met with a lot of big reactions, some positive and some negative.

On “Undisputed,” Keyshawn Johnson was middle-of-the-road, saying that Hurley would be a “good candidate, not great.”

Johnson saw a lot of upsides to hiring Hurley but he’s also worried because he doesn’t have any history running an NBA championship-level team.

Hurley has done great things during his time leading UConn and recently led them to back-to-back NCAA championships.

But that doesn’t necessarily mean he will make a great NBA head coach.

The transition from college to the big leagues isn’t always easy and comes with its own set of problems and complications.

Still, Hurley is considered the best coach in college basketball so the Lakers would be picking a highly-celebrated candidate.

Plus, there aren’t any other potential picks out there who have the sort of resume that Johnson is looking for.

Regardless of what Johnson and others believe, it seems that the Lakers are trying to move forward with this hiring.

They are impressed by Hurley, what he has done with UConn, and what he could do in Los Angeles.

There are many questions about him, of course, but the Lakers are willing to take a chance on him.

There is no doubt that Hurley would need a period of adjustment before he’s coaching at an expert level in the NBA.

The question is just how long that period will be.
