Just last year, Dan Hurley signed a new deal with UConn worth $32.1 million over six years.
Despite that, he could be preparing to move to the NBA and coach the Los Angeles Lakers next season.
If his past comments are any indication, Hurley is very ready to make this transition.
According to Kevin O’Connor, Hurley was on the “Mike Francesa Podcast” this week and spoke about potentially coming to the NBA.
Hurley said:
“I do aspire one day, if the right NBA situation were to come along, to really testing myself…where an organization wants a tone setter to come in and instill a culture with young players and an organization that wants to pursue championships.”

Hurley’s description sounds exactly like the sort of coach the Lakers want right now.
They certainly want a tone-setter but they also wish to hire a coach who could “instill a culture” with the young players on the roster.
Their time with LeBron James is running out and they want to win now but the Lakers also want to start planning for a world without the four-time champion.
They’d like another championship with James but they also wish to secure more after he retires.
Since the start of this head coaching search, inside reports have said the Lakers are trying to find someone who could be a generational coaching talent.
They wish to acquire a leader who will be with the Lakers for years, perhaps even decades.
Based on Hurley’s comments, it sounds like he is all-in on coaching the right way in the NBA.
He is looking to lead an NBA team that has young talent, a lot of potential, and faith in him.
