For years, the New York Giants have lacked any real threats at wide receiver, and some have felt that has played a factor in the struggles of quarterback Daniel Jones.

Despite reports that they wanted to move on from Jones, they took Malik Nabers, a wide receiver from Louisiana State University, with the No. 6 pick in April’s draft.

If Nabers pans out, he would give the Giants a major shot in the arm offensively.

Giants beat reporter Art Stapleton tweeted that he hasn’t seen a Giants receiver perform in practice the way Nabers did on Thursday since Odell Beckham Jr.

On Malik Nabers today: I have not seen a receiver have a practice like he did today since Odell. Wish I can give you more than words and the video is the team opts to put out.
Jumped off the page, so to speak. If this were training camp, my word.#NYGiants

Beckham was New York’s last true game-breaker at the wide receiver position, and when he was in his prime, he was a terror on the field for opposing defensive backs.

In each of his first three NFL seasons, he put up over 90 receptions and 1,300 yards while making the Pro Bowl, and he possessed the type of downhill speed that is rare.

But injuries have greatly slowed him down, and although he’s just 31 years of age, he has been reduced to a supplementary offensive threat over the last few years.

Jones received a big contract extension last offseason, and therefore it is hard to imagine him going anywhere anytime soon.

That means he will have to produce a lot more than he has if the Giants are to get back to the playoffs.

He is coming off a torn ACL he sustained midway through last season, and prior to that, he was struggling more than ever, as he had six interceptions and just two touchdown passes through six games in 2023.
