The NBA Finals are officially underway, starting one of the most exciting championship series in sports.
The Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks will battle it out in a best-of-seven series, a matchup many fans were excited for.
Boston took home Game 1 with ease, making fans wonder if this will be a clean sweep despite the Mavericks’ momentum coming into the game.
While there was a substantial amount of excitement for the on-court festivities, the NBA community is celebrating an off-court achievement.
The NBA on ESPN recently highlighted the fact that Doris Burke made history in this game, as she was the “first woman to serve as a TV game analyst for any major men’s professional championship event.”

This is quite an accomplishment, and Burke has worked incredibly hard to earn this opportunity.
Burke has incited change during her time in the media, paving the way for more women to participate in a male-dominated field.
By having her as an analyst during the Finals, the NBA is also helping women out for the future, showcasing what is possible moving forward.
Women have gotten more and more recognition in the sports world over the past several years, which has helped the diversity in broadcasting.
It will be interesting to see who the next woman to broadcast an event like this will be, and how long it will take for someone else to break through.
The MLB also made history by having an all-female broadcast in the last few years, another step in the right direction for women in sports.
