The entire Los Angeles Lakers fanbase is waiting for big news to drop at any moment.

On Thursday morning, it was reported that LA is eyeing UConn’s Dan Hurley to replace Darvin Ham as the Lakers’ head coach next season.

Other reports added that the team and Hurley will meet on Friday to discuss potential plans.

According to analyst John Fanta, Hurley should make a decision within the next 72 hours.

“Could things change? Maybe. But I don’t think he’s telling his players he’s talking to LA then dragging it out. Would think there’s an answer by the end of the weekend,” Fanta said on Twitter.

Based on everybody I’ve talked with, I believe we get a Hurley decision sometime in the next 72 hours. Could things change? Maybe. But I don’t think he’s telling his players he’s talking to LA then dragging it out. Would think there’s an answer by the end of the weekend.

This is a situation that is moving quickly so a decision by the end of the weekend makes a lot of sense.

If conversations between both sides go well on Friday, news of a hiring might come out by Saturday morning.

Most reports say that the Lakers are going to offer Hurley a boatload of money and a multi-year deal.

That will be quite tantalizing to Hurley, who has referenced eventually coaching in the NBA before.

Of course, Hurley will have to consider the downsides that come with this position.

He will be under immense pressure right away, especially since LA’s time with LeBron James is coming to an end.

He will be tasked with winning as much as possible as soon as possible but he will also be in charge of laying the groundwork for many years to come.

By the end of the weekend, Lakers fans might know who will be leading the team into the future.
