Early on Saturday, Dallas Mavericks coach Jason Kidd made the rounds for his comments about Jaylen Brown.

Some people think he was trying to sneak-diss Jayson Tatum or bait him into taking bad shots, as he went on the record to claim that Jaylen Brown was the best player on the Boston Celtics, even though Tatum is the one getting doubled and triple-teamed.

Kidd claimed that Brown had been quite aggressive and the best Celtics player in this postseason run, lauding him for getting Eastern Conference Finals MVP and praising him for getting the work done on both ends of the floor.

Naturally, Jrue Holiday didn’t disagree with those statements.

When asked about Kidd’s words, the former NBA champion claimed that he wasn’t wrong, gushing about Browns’ aggressiveness and willingness to also guard Luka Doncic on the other end of the floor, adding that not many players are able to withstand the physical toll and burden that comes with scoring and playing defense (Via SiriusXM NBA Radio).

Jason Kidd is a veteran who’s been there and done that multiple times, so it’s hard to think his comments weren’t intentional.

He knows what he’s doing.

He knows the narrative around Tatum and how he still needs to prove himself at the highest level, and perhaps he’s trying to get into his head and make him force things on offense.

Of course, Brown is one of the best players in the league as well, so perhaps he was just telling it as he sees it.
