The Los Angeles Lakers have shown their hand.
Now, they have to wait.
According to reports, they’ve offered Dan Hurley an eight-year contract worth roughly $100 million to lure him away from UConn.
And while it’s hard to envision someone ever turning down that kind of money, the Huskies coach is still weighing in his options.
That’s why the Lakers might be on the edge right now, at least, according to Brian Windhorst.
Talking on ESPN’s Get Up, the renowned insider claimed that the Lakers pretty much need Hurley to make up his mind and take the job, as they’ve focused most of their attention on him and have left other potential candidates to consider other options.
.@WindhorstESPN on Dan Hurley’s expected decision about the Lakers’ HC job:
“The Lakers are on edge about this because they’ve thrown Dan Hurley the bouquet. … They’ve given him presumably the largest coaching contract offer in the history of the franchise.” pic.twitter.com/ICGX24QELA

James Borrego, who was also on their shortlist, is reportedly the leading candidate to succeed JB Bickerstaff with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
JJ Redick is still calling the NBA Finals.
Hurley has been in charge of the Huskies for quite a while and has established an elite program, winning back-to-back NCAA titles.
The money wouldn’t be as good, but he wouldn’t have to deal with that kind of media scrutiny, either.
Even so, with that massive salary and an opportunity not only to coach in the pros but also one of the most popular and winningest franchises in NBA history, it’s hard to envision coach Hurley not making the most of this chance and becoming the next Lakers coach.
