The New England Patriots raced through six Super Bowl championships with what many describe as a cast of underwhelming wide receivers.

At least in terms of measurables, the lineup featured players who did not strike fear into the hearts of defenders when they exited the locker room.

But then they stepped onto the playing field.

One of those undersized standouts was 5-10 receiver Julian Edelman, sometimes jokingly called “Minitron.”

Mike Kadlick reported that Edelman appeared at Monday’s minicamp and was wearing a Boston Celtics cap to support the team’s NBA Finals run.

For eleven seasons, Edelman hauled in passes from quarterback Tom Brady and proved doubters wrong every time he suited up.

His success included 620 career receptions for 36 touchdowns, many of which will remembered as some of the most clutch catches in the team’s storied history.

The bearded Edelman was chosen as an afterthought in the seventh round of the 2009 NFL draft by New England and did not work his way into being a regular starter until 2013.

The high point of a career full of high points came in Super Bowl LIII in the Patriots’ 13-3 victory over the Los Angeles Rams.

Brady targeted Edelman twelve times, and he caught ten of them for 141 yards, earning him MVP.

But perhaps that was not his high point on the biggest stage.

That may have come in Super Bowl LI against the Atlanta Falcons and his team’s historic comeback.

Edelman made what NFL Films called the most amazing catch in Super Bowl history when he scooped a deflected pass just inches off the turf to keep a crucial fourth-quarter drive alive.
