The Los Angeles Lakers are among the most successful and prestigious franchises in all professional sports, with the team winning 17 NBA titles and frequently being at the center of attention in the sports world.
That said, the pressure can be immense to be the head coach of this storied franchise, with the expectation being to win a championship every single year and quickly move on from coaches who don’t live up to expectations.
During his short time with the Lakers, head coach Darvin Ham led the team to a winning record over two seasons and guided them to the NBA playoffs in both years while going as far as the Western Conference Finals last season.
Even though Ham seemed to be producing results, he lost the locker room and his star players, leading to the team parting ways with him recently, which led to the team’s pursuit of UConn’s Dan Hurley that ended on Monday when he chose to stay with the UConn Huskies.
Despite being offered over $11 million per season, which would instantly make him one of the highest-paid coaches in the NBA, Colin Cowherd of FOX Sports argues that it may not have been a great job in Los Angeles, via “The Herd with Colin Cowherd.”
“Don’t confuse big brand with great job,” Cowherd said.

Hurley has a chance to make history with the Huskies and pull off the three-peat after winning back-to-back National Championships with the program the last two years.
In Los Angeles, the pressure would’ve been on right away to win a title, and it is highly unlikely he would’ve remained the head coach had he not won a title in one of his first two or three years with the team.
