What are the Los Angeles Lakers going to do now that Dan Hurley has rejected their offer of six years and $70 million to be head coach?
Most fans assumed they’d simply return to J.J. Redick, the former NBA star who was reportedly on their radar even as they sought Hurley.
But that might not be possible, according to Vince Goodwill.
NBACentral is reporting that Goodwill thinks Redick might not leap at the chance to coach LA.
“Some folks around the league feel J.J. Redick won’t want to be involved with this circus, and that he won’t want to be a second choice, but he wants to coach,” Goodwill wrote.
He went on, “The Lakers seem very intrigued by him for whatever reason and the focus will smoothly shift to him. Because, who else? The coaching cycle is nearly over, and Redick does a podcast with … LeBron James.”
Some people in the league believe that J.J. Redick might not want to get involved with the Lakers’ circus and might not want to be seen as a second choice, per @VinceGoodwill

“Circus” is definitely a good word to use when describing the Lakers’ search for a new head coach to replace Darvin Ham.
It hasn’t been handled very well, especially the recent episode with Hurley.
If Redick were to entertain the Lakers, he would be accepting the fact that he’s considered second-best and isn’t the team’s first choice.
That’s a tough thing to sit with.
He’d also know that if he took the job, he would be welcoming sky-high expectations and a lot of criticism.
At the same time, Redick wants to coach and he has a good relationship with LeBron James.
Plus, it’s not every day that a team like the Lakers offers a job such as this, especially to someone who has never coached before.
Plus, Redick could drive a harder bargain now that he knows the Lakers are desperate.
Therefore, the ball will be in his court if LA picks up the phone and gives him a call.
