The NBA’s desire to expand has not been a secret in recent years, as the most common belief is that it is a matter of when, not if, the NBA decides to add two more teams to the league.

In a recent media appearance, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver addressed this topic once again and shed some light on what’s next on the expansion front largely confirming the two cities everyone expected are at the top of their radar while also adding a third that raised some eyebrows.

NBACentral shared a quote from Silver on Twitter regarding expansion: “There’s been some discussion about going back to Seattle, potentially. Las Vegas, no doubt, is very interested in a team. Mexico City one day.”

Seattle has been at the front of the proverbial line ever since the Seattle SuperSonics were taken away from them and relocated to Oklahoma City, while Las Vegas has been acquiring professional teams left and right and is an ideal spot for an NBA team.

Mexico City is the surprising one on the list, as the NBA would be the first of the four major American professional sports leagues to put a team in Mexico.

Adding two teams to the Western Conference would raise some issues with realignment, but Seattle and Las Vegas have been the two most obvious destinations for years.

The league has the depth and talent to support adding two teams as well, so it’ll be interesting to see what the next steps in this process are.
