The Boston Celtics are currently two wins away from winning what would be an NBA-record 18th title, with Jayson Tatum and company firing on all cylinders in the NBA Finals with a 2-0 lead over Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks.
Although this best-of-seven series is far from over, especially with the next two games being played in Dallas at the American Airlines Center, Boston is about as close as they’ve been to lifting another Larry O’Brien Trophy since Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce led the team to victory over the arch-rival Los Angeles Lakers in 2008.
Along with potentially becoming NBA champions in the next week or so, Tatum was asked (via NBA TV) about his head coach, Joe Mazzulla, and what he has meant to him over these two highly successful years in Boston.
“Aside from being an excellent coach, I truly do believe that he cares about us… he’s there for me… that’s something I truly value,” Tatum said.

Ironically enough, Mazzulla had some giant shoes to fill two years ago after the then-head coach of the Celtics, Ime Udoka, led the team to the NBA Finals but fell to Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors.
Following an off-the-court controversy, the Celtics shockingly parted ways with Udoka, who was considered one of the best coaches in the league then and one of the up-and-comers at his position.
Mazzulla took over for Udoka and hasn’t missed a beat as he came one win away from returning to the Finals last year and now is two wins away from winning his first title as a head coach while leaving an impression on Tatum.
