Even though he’s never been deemed a true scorer, LeBron James holds the all-time scoring record in the NBA.
More than that, he’s never averaged fewer than 20.9 points per game in a single season, and he has one scoring title and a career average of 27.1 points per game — which is the seventh-highest PPG average in NBA history.
Of course, a lot of that has also had to do with his longevity and durability.
Not many guys pushing 40 would’ve been able to average north of 25 points on 54% from the floor and 41% from beyond the arc for a full season.
That’s why it’s hard to think of someone who could take down his scoring record at some point.
Per NBA legend Kevin Garnett, Luka Doncic is the only player who could do so right now (via “All the Smoke Productions” and Legion Hoops).

That makes sense, as Luka holds the third-highest scoring average in NBA history at 28.68 points per game, trailing only the likes of Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain.
Thus far, Doncic has scored almost 11,500 points in the regular season, and his scoring numbers have gone up almost every season, up to a career-high 33.9 points this year.
Then again, whether Doncic will be able or even interested in playing long enough to take down LeBron’s record remains to be seen, and that might be the only thing standing in his way.
