The Los Angeles Dodgers offense is cooking to the point where most fans probably forget that a big piece of the lineup is missing, but getting Max Muncy back ahead of the dog days of summer to add some more thump and depth to this lineup is crucial.

Muncy has been out since the middle of May with a strained oblique, and the Dodgers star has recently provided an update on his health.

Muncy appeared on “Foul Territory” this week and said that he is “not progressing as fast” as he would like to from his oblique injury, while manager Dave Roberts added that Muncy did some plyometric work and took a day of dry swings over the weekend, per Fabian Ardaya.

The latest on Max Muncy’s injury.

Dave Roberts said over the weekend Muncy has been doing some plyo work and took a day of dry swings. It doesn’t seem like any return is imminent. https://t.co/47zIktTR7k

This is unfortunate news, as it does not appear that a Muncy return is imminent, which could be a reason why the team just traded for Cavan Biggio from the Toronto Blue Jays to fill in the gap in the meantime.

Muncy was off to a great start to the season before hitting a brief week-long skid right before his injury, as he had a .940 .OPS on May 7.

The Dodgers have struggled to fill in for him in his absence, as many of the team’s depth pieces outside of its stars have had poor campaigns thus far, namely Chris Taylor, Enrique Hernandez, and Gavin Lux.

Muncy’s absence has left a void in the lineup that no one else has been able to fill, and there’s only so much Mookie Betts, Shohei Ohtani, Will Smith, Freddie Freeman, and Teoscar Hernandez can do on their own.
