Months ago, the Boston Celtics faced some backlash for a tough decision they made.
Simply put, they were forced to make Jaylen Brown the highest-paid player in NBA history.
He was eligible for that kind of deal, and anything short of that could’ve forced him to pursue a future somewhere else.
It didn’t take long before the media and the fans went at them.
Fast forward to today, and it proved to be the right decision.
According to NBA insider — and diehard Celtics fan — Bill Simmons, he’s been the one who’s set the tone for the team this season.
Talking to Doc Rivers on his podcast, Bill Simmons claimed that Brown’s competitive fire to be the best version of himself ignited the team.

He believes that his determination to be elite defensively has made a great difference.
More than that, Simmons was impressed with the fact that Brown decided to keep pushing and working on his game right after getting that generational contract, citing that we had seen multiple players go sideways or not care that much after getting paid.
Brown’s work ethic and character have never been in question, and he shouldn’t be blamed for the state of the market or for checking all the boxes that needed to be checked to be eligible for that kind of contract.
He can’t control that.
What he can control, however, is his approach to the game and his work ethic, and he’s earned every penny there.
