Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks has never been known as a great defensive player but things hit a new low on Wednesday night.

During Game 3 of the NBA Finals, Doncic’s defensive shortcomings were on full display and it may have cost Dallas a much-needed win.

Speaking on The Volume, Jason Timpf shared his concerns with Doncic’s recent output.

He showcased multiple instances when Doncic was slow, not properly guarding his opponents, and making bad decisions that led to fouls and, eventually, his ejection from the game.

“I’m just so disappointed in his performance in those areas this series,” Timpf said.

Even the most diehard Dallas fans are having a hard time defending Doncic’s lack of defense.

He appeared to be slow and disengaged throughout Game 3, often several steps behind his competitors and leaving the door open for easy shots for the Celtics.

There is no doubt that Doncic is one of the most skilled shooters in the NBA but his defensive inabilities are greatly harming the Mavericks, especially now when they are playing the red-hot offensive-minded Celtics.

History suggests that the Mavericks will lose the Finals and if they do, a lot of people will be dissecting the series and where it all went wrong.

Doncic’s problems with defense will surely be at the top of the list.

The Mavericks won’t be able to win the Finals if they don’t fix their defensive problems.

They added bigger players earlier in the season and that has helped a lot but they are far from perfect and Doncic clearly has a lot of room for growth.
