Dan Hurley’s saga with the Los Angeles Lakers has turned into one of the most prolific talking points in the NBA at the moment.
Hurley was offered the head coaching gig, but after a lot of consideration and thought, he ended up going back to UConn to coach for at least one more season.
This was a surprising move to many in the industry, especially considering the prestige the Lakers have accumulated throughout the years.
Hurley hasn’t had many public comments after turning down the job, but he did recently appear on “The Herd” with Colin Cowherd, where he provided some details about this decision.
Had Hurley taken the job, he would have been able to work with LeBron James.
He talked about his relationship with James during this process, revealing that they were on a texting basis.
“We had some text messages, and you know, it’s incredible messaging him over the course of the weekend,” Hurley said.
He also said that James gave him his full support, seemingly excited for the opportunity to work with him.

James, of course, is one of the most prolific players the NBA has ever seen.
Getting to coach him would be a great honor for anyone, but for whatever reason, Hurley decided to stick it out at UConn.
James might be frustrated with this decision, but he can’t dwell on it.
The Lakers are still on the hunt to find their new head coach, and with the NBA Draft right around the corner, they will want to act quickly to find someone.
