Coming into the NBA Finals, superstar guard Kyrie Irving had the opportunity to prove he could help lead a team to a championship for the second time in his career, with the first title won playing alongside LeBron James on the Cleveland Cavaliers, taking down the 73-win Golden State Warriors in 2016.

In 2016, the Cavaliers did the seemingly impossible as they were able to come back from a 3-1 deficit to beat the Warriors in three straight games and win a title, which turned out to be James’ third and Irving’s first.

Irving now has a chance to win a title without James while playing alongside fellow superstar Luka Doncic with the Dallas Mavericks, but they are facing elimination tonight in Dallas at American Airlines Center, where they are underdogs.

Fortunately, Irving has a reputation for stepping up his game in Game 4 of the Finals, averaging 37 points per game while shooting the lights out, according to StatMuse.

The Mavericks will need everything they can get out of Irving tonight, as he may very well have to score 37 to 40 in order to help the Mavericks avoid elimination and a chance to make NBA history as the first team to come back from a 3-0 deficit.

Along with Irving, Doncic will have to bounce back after his Game 3 debacle in which he fouled out of the game in the fourth quarter and left his team to lean on the one-time champion to lead the way.

Although Irving scored a game-high 35 points in Game 3, it wasn’t enough to get the win over Boston, putting Dallas in a tough situation on Friday night on their home floor.
