Almost as fascinating as the months-long cycle of speculation leading up to the annual NFL draft are the revelations of what could have been when the April ritual is concluded.

After all, teams are built—and destroyed—by decisions made in their war rooms regarding who they select to wear their colors and lead their franchises.

For the Los Angeles Rams, management made a substantial offer to another team on draft day that would have shaken up the first round.

Ari Meirov revealed the Rams offered the New York Jets their No. 19 and 52 selections to move up to the No. 10 spot in the NFL draft.

Some analysts believe the team wanted to grab standout Georgia tight end Brock Bowers off the board.

But the Jets refused, and Bowers ended up going at No. 13 to the Las Vegas Raiders.

This led the Rams to choose Florida State edge rusher Jared Verse at No. 19 in a draft that ultimately saw the team attempt to shore up it’s defense.

As for the Jets, GM Joe Douglas instead decided to accept an offer from the Vikings, moving the team down one spot in the first round and receiving fourth and fifth-round choices for their sixth-rounder.

New York then chose Penn State tackle Olu Fashanu at No. 11.

However, the team rejected what would have been a significant deal with the Rams, which would have reshuffled the first-round deck and sent multiple players to different destinations.

Stafford to Bowers would have been an interesting combination, but it was not to be.
