The Dallas Mavericks needed to win on Friday night or else their season would be over.

They pulled off a huge win over the Boston Celtics, bringing the Finals to a 3-1 record.

It was an important victory for the Mavericks but perhaps extra special for Dallas’ Kyrie Irving.

That’s because, according to NBA on ESPN, Irving earned his first win against the Celtics since May of 2021.

Before Friday night, Irving’s losing streak against the Celtics had ballooned to 13 consecutive games.

Irving had publicly admitted that the Celtics had his number and were always able to somehow shut him down and minimize him on the court.

For Dallas fans, this was troubling, and for Boston fans, it was very welcome.

Irving and the Celtics have a rough history, of course, because he used to play for the team and ended things on bad terms with them.

After leaving the Celtics for the Brooklyn Nets, Irving openly commented on the city and its fanbase, casting both in a negative light.

To make matters worse, he was also caught on camera scuffing up the Celtics’ logo at center court in May 2021.

Coincidentally, the night Irving rubbed the sole of his shoe on Boston’s “Lucky” logo was when his losing streak began.

But it’s over now and Irving finally scored a win over his former team.

During Friday’s game, he earned 21 points, 4 rebounds, and 6 assists.

But the job isn’t done yet and the Mavericks still have their work cut out for them.

They will now head back to Boston to try to achieve a second win.

There is no doubt that the home crowd is going to let Irving hear their opinions all night long during Game 5.

He finally snapped this painful streak but can he create a new winning one on Monday night?
