The game isn’t over until it’s over, and the same goes for the NBA Finals.

The Boston Celtics were so close to the Larry O’Brien trophy that they could actually taste it, but this is the biggest stage, and you simply cannot afford to rest on your laurels.

That’s why, following his team’s blowout win, Jason Kidd claimed that the Celtics should’ve been wary about feeling so overconfident ahead of the game (via Boston.com):

“They were ready to celebrate,” Kidd said of the Celtics. “Understand, we made a stand. We were desperate.”

There were some reports before tip-off about the Celtics being quite chirpy during shootaround, and clearly, that excess of confidence backfired.

Of course, the Celtics still have a massive edge in the series and it’s quite difficult to envision them losing the NBA Finals after going up 3-0, which is something that would be unprecedented in NBA history.

Then again, we’ve seen crazy things happen every single year, and all records are meant to be broken.

The Mavericks showed up ready to play and compete and make a statement, and so they did.

Now, they’ll look to take that same approach now that they hit the road for Game 5 at the TD Garden, and while It definitely won’t be easy to get the job done in a hostile environment, they took a big weight off their shoulders by finally putting a number in the win column.

The Celtics, on the other hand, need to be careful not to go back to their trend of old.

They must finish the job once and for all, and they simply cannot afford this series to go to six or seven games.
