The Dallas Mavericks had their backs against the wall in Game 4, and they rose to the occasion to make a statement.
Now, they have to hit the road to try and replicate that success in a hostile environment, and that will clearly be easier said than done.
The Mavericks know that no team has ever been able to come back from a 0-3 deficit in NBA playoff history.
They also know that records were meant to be broken.
However, as much as they would like, there’s no way to win three games in one.
That’s why Jason Kidd has made it loud and clear that they need to take things one possession and one game at a time and not focus on the bigger picture.
When asked about his approach ahead of Game 5 and how he managed to get his players grounded for the game, he claimed that it helped that they had actually been in that position before in Game 4, so they must take the game with the same approach (via NBA).
“We can only focus on Game 5 and trying to find a way to win here in Boston.”

The Boston Celtics, on the other hand, must take an entirely different approach to Monday night’s matchup.
Joe Mazzulla’s team went through the motions in Game 4, seemingly waiting for the Mavericks to just give up.
It takes a lot to win in the NBA, especially at this level.
Anything can happen and anybody can win on any given night, and you simply cannot overlook any opponent you face, not even if you’re just one win away from the ultimate glory.
