The New York Knicks looked poised for a deep postseason run this season.
Losing in the Eastern Conference Semifinals was slightly disappointing, especially considering the fact that they were the higher seed in that matchup.
Of course, injuries took a toll on their chances, and there was no one to blame for that, but it raised questions about their future.
They thrived without Julius Randle, and now some believe they would be better off trading him than re-signing him.
With that in mind, Knicks insiders Ian Begley and Stefan Bondy seem to believe that Randle will no longer be with the team (Mike Scotto & Via New York Basketball).
.@IanBegley: “I’m sticking w my predictions…yes to Jalen Brunson extension, no to Julius Randle”
…@SbondyNBA: “I think they offer it to Jalen…IDK if if he’s going to take it…On Julius I don’t think extension gets done this summer”

They also predicted that they would offer Jalen Brunson a contract extension.
Truth be told, there’s a case to be made for both keeping and trading Randle.
On the one hand, he’s the only reliable scorer they have next to Brunson, and they could’ve used his 20 points per game in the playoffs.
On the other hand, he’s not much of a defender, and he’s also been exposed a bit in the playoffs as well.
Perhaps, with the money he’s making, they could be better off finding more depth and role players around Brunson.
But even if that’s the case, they should also look to get another guy who can put up points on the scoreboard, as Brunson needed someone to defer to in the playoffs, and that’s another reason why they weren’t able to take care of business.
