Kyrie Irving is back in Boston as his Dallas Mavericks take on the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals.

There is still a lot of bad blood between Irving and the Celtics fanbase and many loyal Boston supporters believe he disrespected the team during his years playing there.

But some recent public statements from Irving have Paul Pierce believing he’s trying to make things right with his old team.

“It looks like Kyrie’s trying to make peace in Boston, which is never going to happen,” Pierce said on Monday’s “Undisputed.”

When Irving first left the Celtics a few years ago, he didn’t mince words or hide his opinion.

He said some pretty stark things about the team, the city, and the fanbase that supports them.

In the years since he has been considered a villain by most Celtics fans and is met with a shower of boos every time he takes to the court in Boston.

He has played things a bit nicer this year and it seems that Irving has put his time in Boston behind him.

But will the fans do the same?

As Pierce said, it’s unlikely that they will forgive, forget, and move on.

Instead, people in the city will always have a bone to pick with Irving because of the way that he spoke about them and then demanded a trade from the team.

Irving has upset a number of fans in multiple franchises over the years, so he is surely used to this sort of response.

However, the Celtics have had a very impressive track record against Irving since he left.

In fact, Dallas’ Game 4 win was his first victory over Boston in years.

He may want to put the past behind him but Irving also wants to start beating Boston more.
