For a team that endured a five-win catastrophe in 2023, there is considerable optimism swirling around the Los Angeles Chargers.

This of course starts with the arrival of the uber-successful Jim Harbaugh, who rolled into town fresh off a national championship at Michigan.

He also took San Francisco to the Super Bowl and a pair of NFC title games during his tenure with the 49ers, and many expect him to work his magic quickly in LA.

Former Cleveland Browns GM and long-time NFL assistant Michael Lombardi told Pat McAfee that the Chargers will be a force to be reckoned with in 2024.

Lombardi declared, “They’re going to be physical, you’re going to have to show up and beat them.”

Despite the putrid record last season, Los Angeles enters the fall with many more explosive weapons than a team with its track record would be expected to.

Young gunslinger Justin Herbert is an undeniable talent who, if surrounded by the right weapons, is capable of putting up elite numbers.

Despite missing four games last year with a broken finger, Herbert still has the most completions and passing yards of any NFL quarterback in the first four years of his career.

There is also immense quality along the offensive line, including stud draftee Joe Alt.

And how many defenses can boast a pair of edge rushers such as Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack?

In a league that features surprise teams that rise from the ashes every year – think Houston and Detroit – the Chargers could be that club in 2024.
