After being unable to convince UConn Huskies head coach Dan Hurley to make the jump to the NBA level, the Los Angeles Lakers have had to explore other opportunities, which include seriously considering hiring former player and ESPN analyst JJ Redick to be Darvin Ham’s successor.
Although Redick took a backseat to Hurley once it became public knowledge that the Lakers were aggressively pursuing the two-time National champion, it seems as though he’s still in the running for one of the toughest coaching jobs in professional sports.
Over the weekend, the Lakers brass reportedly met with Redick to conduct a formal interview for the job in Los Angeles, but it is unclear whether he was offered the job or if he accepted the opportunity if team owner Jeanie Buss and general manager Rob Pelinka offered it.
With many believing that this job is Redick’s to lose at this point, the speculation has already begun about who will replace him as a co-lead game analyst for ESPN.
Apparently, Bovada has released odds for Redick’s replacement at ESPN, with another former player, Richard Jefferson, being the favorite moving forward via NBA Central.
Richard Jefferson is the favorite to replace JJ Redick as co-lead game analyst for ESPN if Redick is hired by the LA Lakers, per @BovadaOfficial

At this point in time, there’s no telling whether Redick will be the next head coach of the Lakers or when the storied franchise will announce any decisions they might have made about the position and the team’s coaching staff.
It’ll be interesting to see if the Lakers go with another first-timer as head coach, especially with LeBron James in the twilight of his career.
